Onions

Onion, also known as the common onion or bulb onion, is the most widely cultivated vegetable. It is scientifically known as Allium cepa and is a subspecies of the Allium genus. Fairbanks offers a range of both onions and spring onions (bunching onions) that include hybrids and onions in various colours.

Onions are an essential ingredient in cooking, onions are used across the globe in more ways than one. Available in different sizes, shapes and colours, onions are packed with nutrients like Vitamin B6, B9, Vitamin C and potassium.

Spring onions are long, slender, hollow and green, with straight white shank, spring onions are used both as a vegetable and as a garnish. It is predominantly used in Asian cuisine for its mild onion flavour and the nutrients it provides. Spring onions are a great source of sulphur, flavonoids and vitamins A, C, K, E and B1 to B5, and they help fight inflammation and infections and provide fibre.
